FFA Advisory Committee Policy Guide 

  Section A – Purpose of Advisory Committees

  1. Facilitate cooperation and communication between the State Agricultural Education Staff and Agricultural Education Teachers. 
  2. Provide recommendations and feedback to the California Association FFA in evaluating student programs. 
  3. Provide recommendations and feedback in the development and re-­design of California Association FFA programs and applications.

 Section B – Membership

  1. A person must be a member in good standing with the California Agricultural Teachers’ Association. 
  2. The FFA advisory committee shall consist of two teachers from each of the six regions that comprise the California Association FFA and the current California Association FFA State Sentinel. Ex-Officio members shall include the State FFA Advisor and the Assistant State FFA Advisor.
  3. Each region shall nominate individuals when an opening occurs for membership on the FFA advisory committee.
  4. The term of service for the appointed agricultural education teachers shall begin on July 1 and terminate on June 30 and continue for a two-­‐year period. Agricultural education teachers will be limited to serving no more than three consecutive terms.
  5. Agricultural education teachers may not serve on the California Association FFA Adult Board at the concurrent time of their service commitment on the California Association FFA Advisory Committee.

Section C – Committee Operation

  1. At least three meetings will be held per year, one in the September, one in February and one in June during the Summer CATA Conference. Monthly zoom meetings may be called as needed. The exact number of meetings will be determined by the needs of the California Association FFA.
  2. The committee members shall elect a committee Chair and Chair-Elect. The Chair-Elect shall move into the position of Chair. 
  3. The California Association FFA Assistant State FFA Advisor shall develop an agenda for each meeting. 
  4. Discussion to obtain consensus will be the prevailing procedure used at meetings. It should be noted that committee activity is limited to suggestions, recommendations and assistance. Authority does not include administrative control of California Association FFA programs; these responsibilities are reserved for the Agricultural Education State Staff. 
  5. Meeting minutes will be recorded by the Assistant State FFA Advisor and placed on calaged.org.
